Do I Need Removals Insurance When I Move Home?
Most home contents policies do not cover belongings while they are on a lorry. Removals cover fills that gap for the one day when everything you own is in motion.
Goods in transit cover
This is the standard protection carried by professional firms. It covers loss or damage while your belongings are being loaded, transported and unloaded.
Single item limits
Policies cap the amount payable for any one item. If you own art, jewellery or an instrument worth more than the cap, declare it and take out an extended limit.
Self packed boxes
Boxes packed by you are usually covered for the box, not the contents. If a crate holds something irreplaceable, let the crew pack it so it is fully covered.
Storage cover
Transit cover normally ends when goods enter storage. Ask for a separate storage policy if your belongings will be held for more than a few days.
