Getting the most out of your materials
How to pack a box properly
Build the base with two layers of tape rather than one, pack heaviest items at the bottom and lightest on top, and fill gaps with paper so nothing shifts in transit. A full box should be heavy enough to be worth carrying but light enough to lift comfortably, which is exactly why smaller double walled boxes exist for books and tinned food rather than cramming them into a standard carton.
Labelling that actually helps
Write the destination room on at least two sides of every box, not just the top, so it can be read while stacked. A short note of the contents saves time unpacking, and marking boxes that must travel upright or go in first avoids confusion for the crew on the day.
What not to pack yourself
Televisions, mirrors, artwork and anything with glass are best left to our team if you want them fully covered under our insurance, since self packed boxes are typically covered for the box rather than the contents. See our guide on removals insurance for more detail on what is and is not covered.
Full pack, part pack or materials only
Not every household wants the same level of help. Some customers order materials and pack everything themselves over a couple of weekends, others ask us to pack the whole house in a day, and many land somewhere in between with a fragile only pack. Whichever you choose, our house removals and office removals teams can combine packing with the move itself so you only deal with one crew and one invoice.
Collecting your boxes afterwards
Once you have unpacked, flatten the boxes and we will collect them on an agreed date so they do not sit in your new garage for months. If you hire our plastic crates instead of cardboard, collection is built into the service as standard.
