Things to Do When Moving House
The move itself is one day. Settling in properly is the week that follows, and a short list keeps that week from disappearing into boxes.
On the day
Take meter readings at both properties, photograph the condition of rented rooms and check that every box is in the right room before the crew leave.
First 48 hours
Locate the stopcock, fuse board and boiler controls. Test smoke alarms and change the locks if you have bought the property.
First week
Register with a local GP and dentist, update your driving licence and vehicle log book, and set up the new council tax account.
Unpacking order
Beds, then bathroom, then kitchen. Everything else can wait until you know how you actually use the space.
