The real risk of a Friday
Completion depends on money arriving through a chain before the banking cut off. If a transfer misses that window on a Friday the whole chain waits until Monday morning. Families sleep in hotels with the van loaded and the removal company charges for the wasted day and the overnight storage.
Midweek the same problem costs a few hours or at worst the following morning.
When Friday is still the right choice
It is not always wrong. Choose Friday when the chain has fixed it, when you cannot take time off work, or when having a full weekend to unpack matters more than the price. If you do go Friday avoid the last Friday of the month which is the single busiest completion slot in the UK calendar.

The completion date is agreed by the whole chain so raise midweek early rather than after everyone has assumed Friday. Most people simply default to Friday and will happily take Wednesday if someone suggests it first. Ask your solicitor to propose it when the chain is first assembled.
